Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the world yet it isn't widely taught in schools in Midlothian and many adults go to Spain every Summer without knowing a word of Spanish and wish to be able to talk to the locals. I aim to keep my lessons light and fun whilst developing language skills and all round learning ability.

Spanish is the official language of 20 sovereign states and is spoken by around 423 million people. Why would you not want to learn the second most spoken language in the world? Don't assume all Spaniards speak English because they really don't. Many are so proud of their heritage that they point blank refuse to learn/speak it so it's really important to make the effort to speak Spanish to them. They will never judge you for it as they appreciate your effort to communicate in their language.

Learning a language isn't easy but trust me when it all starts clicking into place in your head it's so satisfying Here's a few tips for language learning:

  • Set aside one or two 30 min slots a week where you just sit and go over your notes/vocab sheets
  • Watch foreign films with English subtitles. Just listening to it even though you don't understand does really help
  • Listen to foreign music. Youtube and itunes are the best places for this. Just have it on in the background as you clean, in the car etc
  • Apps! there's LOADS of good apps out there that lots of my students are using and finding very useful. This makes language learning more fun and less of a chore
